US Ferrous Memo Imports fell 16% in the year 2024, exports fell 7.2%


Ferrous US Scrap imports in 2024 fell 16% from the previous year to the lowest level since 2019 amid the decline in shipping from Canada, according to the S&P Global Market Intelligence’s Trade atlas on February 13.

The US imported 2.94 million MT Ferro Memo in 2024, down from 3.51 million MT in 2023. Import from Canada fell 15% from year to year to 2.18 million MT in 2024, but partly balanced with an increase of 65 % year to year at Ferrous Import Memo from Mexico to 353,412 MT.

The US ferrous memo exports are 13.38 million MT in 2024, down 7.2% from 2023 to the lowest level from 2020. Delivery to Turkey rose 8.5% year to year to 4.41 million MT in 2024, while exports To Mexico dropped 31% to 1.84 million MT during the same period.

US pork iron imports are 4.7 million MT in 2024, up 8% from year to year to the highest level from 2021. Imports from Brazil rose 26% year to year to 271,505 MT in 2024, with Brazil providing 73% of all US Iron Pig Iron Import.
