Greece recorded a primary budget surplus of 4.67 billion euros ($ 5.46 billion) in six months to June, more than double the targeted surplus of 2.24 billion euros, temporary data from the Ministry of Finance showed on Tuesday.
The main surplus-which does not include the cost of debt service, social security and local administrative budgets-benefit from higher tax revenue than targeted 32.3 billion euros and substantial savings, with the cost of coming around 1.89 billion euros lower than the goal.
Greece has recovered from the 2009-2018 financial crisis and has exceeded the fiscal target, thanks to a strong income from handling tax avoidance and expanding electronic payments.
