Russia might ban export gasoline for a month to stabilize prices, TASS reports

Russian federal anti-monopoly services can start a one-month ban on export of gasoline by large producers to stabilize wholesale prices ahead of the harvest fraud season, the Tass State News Agency reported on Friday.

But that quoted the deputy head of the service, Vitalyo Korolyov, who said the export ban was only one of the possible solutions.

At present, large oil companies are allowed to export gasoline but traders and sellers are again prohibited from doing so, below the size that was originally implemented last March.

Korolyov said the price of wholesale gasoline has recovered lately, which he described as a correction after a long decline. But he said the retail price growth did not exceed the general inflation rate.

TASS quoted him said an alternative strategy to stabilize the wholesale market could be to create a market ahead to reduce some seasonal demand.
