Dtek Ukraine to find long -term US LNG offers in Ceraweek, said CEO

The Dtek Private Ukraine Gas Company hopes to sign a long-term gas import agreement with the US Venture Global VVG company or Cheniere Energy LNG next month to supply the country and neighbors of Slovakia, Poland and Hungary, its CEO tells Reuters.

Maxim Timchenko said the DTEK trade arm wanted to sign an LNG agreement of 10 to 20 years, with the first gas imported to the Ukraine storage facility and then channeled west.

“This is an active discussion about our trading arm – Round of discussion and other meetings will take place in (The) Ceraweek (Conference) in Houston, so they will speak not only to explore global but also to other large LNG suppliers. Cheniere, for example, “said the CEO, referring to the annual energy conference which will take place on Sunday 10 March.

Venture Global does not respond to requests for comments. Cheniere refused to comment.

Both companies are the largest producer of Superchilled gas in the United States, and help the country become the largest LNG exporter in the world.

Cheniere continued the construction of phase 3 expansion at the Corpus Christi LNG facility in Texas, while the Global Venture was assigning the first phase of the PlaqueMines LNG factory in Louisiana.

DTEK was also in the discussion to compensate for Qatar LNG, Timchenko added.

Ukraine has become a net importer of natural gas from European Union countries because its gas storage production and facilities are under heavy shots by Russian troops.

Timchenko said the country would likely import 1-2 billion cubic meters from Europe this year, and acknowledged that Russian attacks on Ukraine gas storage infrastructure threatened business cases to import and resell US LNG.

When asked whether Dtek was worried about the ability of global venture to supply cargo reliably given the legal challenges of long-term contracts with large companies, the Timchenko said “All Honorable Parties Obligations” for the first cargo venture delivered in December about what could be the first two years agreement for six and 12 LNG content.
