Japan Japan sees the increasing competition for the US LNG as Asia, European demand is growing

The Japanese Top Electric Generator Jera hopes that competition for the Natural Gas Liquid AS (LNG) increases because demand from Asia and Europe increases, his Asian CEO said on Wednesday.

“There are many potential buyers. Asian and European buyers are really interested in US energy. So, there are many competitors, “Asian Asian CEO Izumi Kai told Reuters on the sidelines of the Indian Energy Week Conference.

Companies in the US, the largest LNG exporter in the world, encourage progress with projects for new export capacity or expanded after Trump’s administration in January appoints a moratorium on the new LNG export permit. Trump’s decision can open the way for nearly 100 million metric tons per year (TPY) additional LNG in 2031.

At present, 10% of the deterrent offtake volume comes from the US, said Kai.

“In the future, we can increase the source of the US LNG depending on competitiveness (price),” he added.

Kai said the company was looking at several competitive LNG projects along the US Bay Coast, but refused to say whether the deterrent wanted to take shares in the WDS Louisiana Woodside Energy LNG project.

Woodside seeks to sell 50% of shares in the Louisiana LNG project, which is entirely owned after the acquisition of $ 1.2 billion from the Tellurian Inc. developer in October.

“We will continue to identify better projects for us,” Kai said, adding that companies are looking for global opportunities including the Middle East, and Australia.

“So if something happens in certain areas we can still manage physical supply,” he said.
